Last week was busy, with little time for crafting or blogging. My sister arrived on January 10 for a one-week vacation. We went to see three movies (Into the Woods, Unbroken, Selma), which is more movies than I usually see in the theater in an entire year. We also watched Blu rays at my house; she saw Night at the Museum for the first time and I saw How to Train Your Dragon for the first time. We played lots of Pandemic, a board gamein which players work cooperatively to cure four diseases that are threatening to take over the globe. We played mini golf, went to Harry Potter World at Universal Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure, and spent a day in Saint Augustine. We visited family, including an impromptu dinner at my house one night. Three times we walked more than a mile: birdwatching with our father and other family, once to hang out with an uncle, and once to the library and back so I could return a book. It was a pretty awesome week! Although I didn’t have a lot of time for crafting, I did finish up three projects. All three were mostly finished, but needed a little bit of finalization. The Tribbles are the first of these projects.
Orlando Distaff Day 2015
Saturday, January 10, was the Eleventh Annual Orlando Distaff Day. I’ve known about the event for the last 5 or 6 years, but have always had a conflict and been unable to attend. This year, not only did I attend, I also served on the planning committee. I had an absolutely wonderful time at this event!
Breed Specific Fiber Inventory
Yesterday, I started updating my fiber stash on Ravelry. I didn’t finish because I ran out of sunlight for taking pictures. I did, however, make a handwritten list of all the fibers I have so that I could take it with me to Distaff Day. Here’s the list! (Note: This is not a list of all the fiber I have; it is only the breed specific fibers and does not include blends).
The Story of the Unique Sheep by Dianne & Laura Lough
I have a small collection of children’s books about fiber arts and I’m always looking for more to add to it. Just after Christmas, I saw The Story of The Unique Sheep on the list of upcoming books on Amazon, so I preordered it. The postwoman delivered it to me yesterday.
The Big Book of Granny Squares by Tracey Lord
As you may have noticed if you’ve read this blog for a while, I do not review patterns or pattern books. The reason for this is twofold. First, other bloggers and podcasters review many patterns and pattern books. Second, I don’t personally purchase many patterns or pattern books. The primary reason for that is my queue of projects to complete is always quite long. My experience is that I frequently change my mind about what I want to knit, so I prefer to purchase patterns immediately before I plan to make them, rather than when they are first released. By the time I buy patterns or pattern books, they’ve been well and thoroughly reviewed by many others. In order to find books to review on this blog, I look at upcoming publications on Amazon and purchase the ones that look interesting to me. I was excited when I saw The Big Book of Granny Squares: 365 Crochet Motifs show up in that list a few months ago, because I’ve been looking for a good crocheting stitch dictionary and this looked like it would fit the bill. I was not disappointed.
