Umbridge Pretty in Pink Kitty Pi

During the last week of August, while Chris and I were in New Jersey, I boarded Pepper at the vet.  This was traumatic for me; she’s 18 years old and never been boarded before.  I’ve always had someone come to my house to feed and water the cats while we were away.  But her health was fragile, and she was taking 6 medications a day which was a lot to ask of friends or family.  So I boarded her.  I sent her with the USA Kitty Pi that I made a few months ago.  It never occurred to me that they might wash it, so I left no washing instructions.  They washed and dried it which meant, of course, that it shrunk.  It was now too small for Pepper!

Autumnal Socks

When we moved to Florida, I thought I would miss having four seasons.  My husband said, “If you miss a season, we can always visit it.”  I’ve been living in Florida for 12 years now, and most of the time I do not miss seasons.  We haven’t taken a trip just to visit a season.  We actually get 3 seasons here, though ‘spring’ and ‘fall’ do not happen when I expect them.  We get fall-like weather in February.  I even get to see leaves change in February; the Crepe Myrtles in our back yard turn brilliant red and orange.  Still, September brings with it the expectation of changing colors, and when I look out my windows, everything is green.  So the autumn colorway of the socks I finished before we left for California made me particularly happy.

Heirloom Knitting

Today is my husband’s 50th birthday.  In honor of this occasion, I am very excited to share with you some of my most treasured possessions: the layette hand knit for Chris by his Aunt Lena.  My mother-in-law saved these items all these years, and gifted them to me last year because she knew that I would appreciate them not only because they were Chris’s as a baby, but also because of the skill and workmanship so apparent in these pieces.
