Yesterday, I started updating my fiber stash on Ravelry. I didn’t finish because I ran out of sunlight for taking pictures. I did, however, make a handwritten list of all the fibers I have so that I could take it with me to Distaff Day. Here’s the list! (Note: This is not a list of all the fiber I have; it is only the breed specific fibers and does not include blends).
Sheep Breeds
- Blue-Faced Leicester
- Cheviot
- Clun Forest
- Columbia
- Cormo
- Corriedale
- Corriedale Cross
- Falkland
- Finn
- Gotland
- Hog Island
- Jacob
- Leicester Longwool
- Lincoln
- Masham
- Merino
- Polworth
- Romney
- Shetland
- Wensleydale
Other Animal Fibers
- Alpaca
- Angora
- Camel Down
- Cashmere
- Black Llama
- Qiviut
- Silk
- Yak
Plant Fibers
- Acala Cotton
- Bamboo
- Natural Green Cotton (undyed; it grows green!)
- Seeded Pima Cotton (unginned)
- Sea Island Cotton
I have at least four ounces of all the Sheep Breeds and Plant Fibers. The have no more than an ounce of the Other Animal Fibers, except that I do have 4 ounces of Yak and Black Llama. The plan is to spin one to two of these fibers per month, with the order of spinning still to be determined. At that rate, it will take a couple years to spin through them all!
If you recall, I had to cram my MDSW fiber into the suitcase and barely got it closed. I’ve left the fiber in the suitcase all this time because I didn’t have another place to store it. I thought that when I opened the suitcase, it would be like those snakes in a box and spring out on me. This did not happen. The fiber has been in the suitcase for so long that it compressed. I was rather sad about that.
